Back to the Motherland I Go

Posted: August 25, 2016 in Uncategorized

In one week I depart for Mother Russia for nine months of dissertation research, thus the blog is back. Like my most recent trip to Russia, I’ll be based out of the Russian State University for the Humanities in Moscow and working in the State Archive of the Russian Federation (GARF) and the Russian State Military Archive (RGVA). The topic of my research is still German POWs in the Soviet Union, for which I recently won a grant to support this trip. You can read about my research and the grant here.

As usual, I will run away to my beloved Ulyanovsk as soon as possible (Политех лучше всех), which in this case means about a week and a half after my arrival in Russia for a conference. I guess that means I should start thinking of putting my lecture together.

Stay tuned for brief updates on my research and chronicles of my exploits, aka my excitement over snow, UAZiki, old Mercedes, and shashlyki.

As Gagarin said, “Поехали!”

You and We are relatives. You and We are working in one file and at the same institute in Moscow. We know about all the German prisoners of war. In addition to barbecue our pasties and kubete. Write us a letter. We are “children of Israel” the ancient people of Crimea, the Black Sea.
